What is chezy equation?

Chezy equation is a mathematical formula used to determine the flow velocity in an open channel. It is named after the French mathematician Antoine Chezy who proposed it in 1775. The equation states that the flow velocity is proportional to the square root of the hydraulic radius and the slope of the energy grade line, and inversely proportional to the roughness coefficient. The formula can be used to calculate the flow rate of a river or canal, and determine the parameters required to design and manage hydraulic structures such as weirs, spillways, culverts, and channels. Chezy equation is considered one of the fundamental equations in open channel hydraulics and has been widely used in engineering practice for over two centuries.
